Breath is the fuel for your voice
Lauren Marie’s journey into voice teaching was an unusual one.
Studying Linguistics and Japanese at The University of Sheffield piqued her interest in phonetics, which had strong links with accent and dialect work. This lead Lauren to pursue Professional Voice Practice at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she studied under Alex Taylor, receiving masterclasses with Barbara Houseman, Alison Bomber and Kate Godfrey at The RSC.
Since Graduation, Lauren has taught across the UK and internationally, working with cohorts and individuals from The Birmingham Repertory Theatre to The Leeds Conservatoire, with three years of voice instructing at The IC Theatre in Manchester. She has worked with directors such as Mathias Andre, Lynn Farleigh, Amit Sharma and Katy Weir.
Currently, Lauren is Principal Lecturer in Voice at BIMM University Performers College Birmingham.
Lauren effortlessly blends her voice and movement training, combined with her knowledge of phonetics and the Japanese language, to create varied and unique voice workshops for people to find a sense of self expression within their voice and body. Lauren specialises in Skinner Release, Laban for Voice and Linklater Method. Lauren is a brown belt in Shotokan Karate, and often integrates breath work from both yoga and martial arts into her teaching.
